Why would Florida's governor turn down $377 million in federal money
Because "fuck you, that's why"
If you aren't reading Jeff Tiedrich (everyone is entitled to my own opinion) on this site, you really should. He recently posted a piece on the Supreme Court in which he created the doctrine of “because fuck you, that's why” as the only explanation for many SCOTUS decisions that also applies, in my opinion, to many of the actions of MAGA conspiracy theorists and whackjobs everywhere.
For example, Florida governor and embarrassing presidential candidate, Ron DeSastrous quietly rejected hundreds of millions of federal dollars that would have provided rebates for energy efficient appliances and training for electrification contractors designed to reduce energy costs as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Applications for $377 million in federal grants were withdrawn after Ron also vetoed the grant request that would have created an agency to administer the rebates. In other words, the program as well as its implentation would have been covered by federal funds. This comes amid the background that every single republican voted against Biden's climate law providing billions for clean energy programs and tax credits. This is a real loss to the citizens of Florida who have suffered enough already from Ron's flawed covid policies, and who now have an absentee governor who provides some new embarrassment every single day. And why, why you ask? To quote one of my favorite writers, “because fuck you, that's why. “
